Tree mapping technology

Since 2017, TAU integrated mobile technology in tree planting and growing initiatives in house and for partners. Data collected include GPS coordinates per tree, date of planting, species, socio-demographic data of smallholder farmers’ household among others. To date we have mapped 300,000 trees in 8 districts in Uganda and the Tree Adoption app is currently available on google playstore.

Starting 2021, TAU also uses kml file polygons to map planting sites. The polygons are uploaded onto the RESTOR platform and used for satellite-based monitoring of planting site. Sequential images will be taken over the years to demonstrate time-series changes in green cover of the planting sites.
